The Balearic Islands of Spain are a great place to holiday for a variety of reasons, but if you are going to take the kids along, family holidays to Menorca can’t be beat. Among the neighboring islands, Menorca has by far the longest amount of coastline for beach excursions, with over 600 kilometers to be exact.
While summer has some really fun festivals and local celebrations, with over 300 days annually of sunny weather, you don’t have to be stuck going in the peak tourist season. The off-season is where you will often find the best bargains which help out the family budget. With the fair weather, you could easily go as early as April or as late as October.
Access to the island is convenient as well, as you can catch a 2 hour flight from London and land in Menorca’s capital city of Mahon. From there you can reach any part of the island by bus or car in less than an hour.
For the grownups, there are some lively spots and discotheques and even some nude beaches to be found. Menorca offers some great accommodations and excursions for the entire family. Family-friendly hotels include: Cala N Forcat on the west side of the island, 5 minute car journey from Ciutadella, 30 minute walk. Swimming pool is spacious, staff always incredibly friendly. A supermarket just over the road Hostal Jeni, is a full service modern hotel in the centre of Menorca with a terrace- garden, Jacuzzi, sauna, heated swimming pool with a retractable roof, individually-controlled A/C, and a restaurant serving 3 meals daily. Punta Prima, occupying a privileged and tranquil seafront location, next to the Insotel Club Punta Prima, these luxurious and spacious suites are set in attractive gardens.
On the beaches you can explore secluded coves, hire a sailboat, or a motorboat. You can catch a ride to the sister islands Majorca or Ibiza, discover the ancient history at The National Museum and see some on the 150 species of birds in the island’s natural interior, or visit The Aquarium for an interesting exposition of fauna and flora of the Mediterranean area. Annual festivals are also abound throughout the year.
Perhaps the best accommodation choice for a family holiday is to rent a villa in Menorca. The advantage of renting one of the many lovely holiday villas in Menorca is the additional space, privacy and flexibility that they offer, not to mention the private swimming pool.
Most visitors return to see what they did not see on their last holiday. The family holidays to Menorca should become a regular tradition for you too!
